A walk round the centre of this Southern Bohemian town is a wonderful experience. Gothic and Renaissance-style houses, the large Renaissance town-hall in the sloping square, adjoining to the narrow and tortuous lanes, stately monasteries and  churches, have been well-preserved till the present time without disturbing alterations and as a whole they represent jewel of a world-wide significance. The St. Vitus? cathedral, a valuable building of the Czech Gothic, dominates by its location and dimension in the centre of the town.
